Diocese Welcomes Back Bishop Neil Tiedemann

Brooklyn’s newest auxiliary bishop was welcomed back to the diocese Aug. 4 with a Mass of thanksgiving and reception at the Immaculate Conception Pastoral Center in Douglaston, Queens.
Bishop Neil Tiedemann, C.P., Bishop of Mandeville, on the island of Jamaica, for the past eight years, joined the diocesan pastoral team as Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio said, “So, it is with gratitude to Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, that we welcome Bishop Neil Edward Tiedemann of the Congregation of the Passion, Titular Bishop of Cova, as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn.”

More than three months after superstorm Sandy brought devastation upon New York, people in the Brooklyn Diocese are still struggling to recover. However, they have not been forgotten. Earlier this month, a three-ton truck, packed with donations for Sandy victims, drove up to Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Red Hook, from Florida.

“The bishop, with this rededication, shows that this church is supposed to be open in waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ,” said pastoral associate, Sister Frauke Tinat, from the community of Koinonia John the Baptist. “This great grace has come to Red Hook because the field is ripe for the New Evangelization,” Bishop DiMarzio told the congregation. “Today we give thanks and pledge ourselves for the work that needs to be done.”
